Lacrosse Preview- April 27
We start the lacrosse recap in Chestertown. An overflow crowd of 2,511 saw a great game. Kylor Berkman scored the game winner with 4:34 left as #5 Salisbury beat Washington College 12-11. Berkman finished with 4 goals and 1 assist in his last regular season game. Salisbury has won 9 straight over the Shoremen. Salisbury will be off until the NCAA tournament while Washington College plays Gettysburg on Friday in the semifinals on the Centennial Conference tournament.
In division one Navy beat Bucknell 9-8 to win the Patriot League title and a NCAA bid. The Mids checked the ball out of a Bucknell player’s stick and it rolled into the goal for the game winner. Brendan Connors had 3 goals and 1 assist for the Mids. On Friday Navy beat Colgate 9-8 in 3 overtimes to advance to the title game. Joe Lennon had the last three goals of the game including the game winner for Navy. Maryland was not as fortunate. The Terps lost 16-10 to North Carolina in the ACC semifinals Friday night. Maryland’s NCAA hopes appear to be on life support since their only good win is against Duke in early March. UMBC won the America East regular season with an 18-5 win over Vermont in front of 1,306 people. The Retrievers host Binghamton Wednesday night at 7:30 in the semifinals. If they win they will host the final next weekend. Towson lost 10-6 at Penn but will host Drexel on Wednesday in the CAA semifinals. The Tigers need to win the tournament to get a NCAA bid. Loyola beat Hobart 16-7 to win a share of the ECAC. If UMASS loses to Rutgers next weekend Loyola will win the automatic bid but they are expected to get an at large bid if that doesn’t happen.
There is a lot of midweek action this week. Johns Hopkins travels to Mount Saint Mary’s tonight plus the two semifinals on Wednesday. I will recap those games on Friday plus preview the last week of the regular season.
